Mr RONAN BANIM, BSc(Hons) MBBS FRCSEd FRCS(T&O)

Mr Ronan Banim is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon who works in Chester, at The Grosvenor Nuffield Hospital, and the Countess of Chester NHS Trust.

Mr Banim went to London University, and qualified in 1993 with both a BSc (Hons) and the medical degree, MB BS. He did his basic training in London, and his higher surgical training on the West Midlands Training Program. This included The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, Oswestry, along with hospitals in North Wales and Stoke-on-Trent.

After passing his Specialty Fellowship exams, Mr Banim's training then took him first to Wrightington, the hospital where modern-day hip replacements were developed, and then on to America for further training in trauma and sports surgery.

In 2006, Mr Banim was appointed to his consultant post at the Countess of Chester Hospital, where his role is to provide a lower limb reconstruction service. This includes joint replacement and revision, as well as ligament reconstruction, such as after sporting injuries. He also performs a large amount of key-hole surgery, using an arthroscope to look into joints to repair or remove damaged structures.

Mr Banim is part of the Orthopaedic team in the Countess of Chester that provides 24hour emergency trauma cover. He runs a weekly trauma clinic and operating list, caring for both routine and complex fractures and other injuries.

Mr Banim continually keeps himself abreast of new developments in orthopaedics. He is a member of the BMA, British Orthopaedic Society, British Hip Society, BASK, and attends meetings and conferences regularly.

Mr Banim is on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council, registration number 403124, and has full medical indemnity. He is recognised by all major insurers, including BUPA, AXA PPP, Aviva, WPA and Simply Health.

In his spare time, Mr Banim is a keen sailor. He is a member of RORC, and has completed the Fastnet race amongst other off-shore races. He regularly sails dinghies at West Kirby, and cruises the East Coast. He also enjoys other outdoor pursuits, particularly when with his family, and knows what it's like to be a patient having recovered from a broken elbow!
